Theme-based Improvement Works in Mei Lam Estate: Exemplifying Green Living & Sustainability in public housing estates
PROJECT
OVERVIEW
The revitalization of Mei Lam Estate’s public spaces embraces the theme of green living and sustainability, aiming to reshape residents’ habits and foster a deeper connection with nature. By transforming underutilized areas into meaningful stopping points—such as the sculpture plaza, river channel plaza, and community farm—the project encourages daily moments of reflection, tree appreciation, and social interaction. These nature-infused spaces are thoughtfully placed along residents’ everyday circulation routes, offering new perspectives on how to engage with the estate. A refreshed palette of nature-inspired colors adds warmth and a welcoming atmosphere, reinforcing the sense of comfort and belonging. Through initiatives like planting activities and community farming, residents are invited to share knowledge and build relationships rooted in environmental awareness. We believe that reconnecting with nature is essential not only for cultivating sustainable habits, but also for enhancing the overall well-being and quality of life within the community.
